Stock Market Indicator Flashes Red

The total dollar value of the U.S. stock market (market cap) relative to the size of the U.S. economy (GDP) is a simple gauge to evaluate the prospects for stocks.  Currently, the stock market is equal to 147% of the value of the economy. Such a high relative valuation has historically presaged subpar returns in the coming years.
