Retail Trade Group Anticipates Holiday Sales to Increase by 4.3 to 4.8 Percent
October 3, 2018
The National Retail Federation is expecting retail sales for November and December to see an increase of between 4.3 and 4.8 percent over last year. This would see total holiday retail spending reach $720.9 billion, up from 2017’s $691.9 billion.
An increase of between 4.3 and 4.8 percent wouldn’t be as much as the previous year, which saw holiday sales climb 5.3 percent. It would still be above the five-year average of 3.9 percent.
The NRF also said that it expects this year’s seasonal employment by retailers to be between 585,000 and 650,000 jobs, up from the previous year’s 582,500.
