Weekly Unemployment Claims Rise Unexpectedly

The number of Americans filing for unemployment benefits increased last week. The week ending November 10 saw an additional 2,000 claims, bringing the seasonally adjusted total to 216,000 for the week. Economists had anticipated a decline to 212,000.

The four-week moving average of initial claims, which is considered to be a less volatile measure of labor trends, rose 1,500 to 215,250 last week.
