Weekly Unemployment Claims Increase to 6-Month High
December 4, 2018
New claims for jobless benefits increased last week to levels not seen since May. This marks the third straight week that claims have risen unexpectedly, which could raise concerns that the red-hot labor market may be cooling.
Initial claims for unemployment benefits increased by 10,000 for the week ending November 24, for a seasonally adjusted total of 234,000 for the week. Economists anticipated the number to decline to 220,000.
