New Home Sales End 2018 with a Significant Drop

The government shutdown means that data regarding the housing market’s performance for the last two months of the year has not been released. Private analytics firms can offer a glimpse of how the market is doing, and based on one recent report, things look grim.

According to data from research firm John Burns Real Estate Consulting, December saw an 18 percent drop off in the sales of new homes, as compared to the year before. November saw a slightly larger 19 percent drop off.

The research firm’s data is considered to correlate closely to the official government reports.
