Farmer Sentiment Plummets
June 3, 2019
Following a spring plagued by flooding and an escalating trade war, farmers are feeling worse about their prospects than they have in years. The Purdue University/CME Group Ag Economy Barometer dropped 14 points in May for a reading of 101. This is the lowest reading since October 2016. May’s reading continues a month’s long slide, with the barometer falling 42 points since the beginning of the year. The barometer is based on a survey of 400 American agriculture producers and their views on the health of the farming sector.
