Young Americans Eschew Expensive Engagement Rings

Much has been made of how millennials and those in Generation Z approach traditional financial milestones. They live with their parents longer, buy homes at a lower rate than previous generations, and they get married later. When they do get married, they balk at spending exorbitant amounts on an engagement ring. In a recent survey from TD Ameritrade, two-thirds young Americans thought the most that should be spent on an engagement ring is $2,500. This is less than half the national average cost of $5,680.
