What Do Americans Think Is the Best Long-Term Investment?

Between cryptocurrencies and retail investment platforms like Robinhood, it seems like more Americans than ever are looking for the next big investment. However, according to a recent Gallup poll, when it comes to long-term returns, Americans view real estate as the most attractive option.

When given the option of stocks, bonds, gold, savings accounts/CDs or real estate, 41% of Americans chose real estate as the best long-term investment. That’s up from 35% who felt the same way last year. Stocks took a distant second place at 26%, up from 21% last year. Gold was up slightly to 18% from 16% last year.

Americans’ views of savings account/CDs soured, falling from 17% last year to just 9% this year. Bonds fared the worst, with just 3% of respondents saying it was the best choice, down from 8% last year.
