Construction Spending Increased in May

The Commerce Department report on Monday showed construction spending increased 0.4 percent in May. Construction spending accelerated 4.5 percent on a year-over-year basis. Investment in public construction projects increased 0.7 percent to the highest level since 2010, after jumping over 2% in April. Spending on federal government construction projects advanced 2.1 percent, following a 2.5 percent surge in April. State and local government construction spending climbed to the highest level since September 2009.
