Consumer Confidence Rises to 18-year High

The Consumer Confidence index increased to 133.4, despite economist predictions that it would decline. This marks the highest level since October 2000.
The survey tracks sentiment in American households regarding current economic conditions, as well as the prospects for the next six months. Consumer’s confidence in the labor market and overall economy are an indicator of how likely they will be to spend, especially on big-ticket items like cars and homes.
