Consumer Spending Shows Steady Increase in July

The Commerce Department’s latest report shows that consumer spending, which accounts for more than two-thirds of the economy, rose 0.4 percent last month. This is the same amount that it rose in June.
The personal consumption expenditures (PCE), an index that tracks prices changes in consumer goods and services, rose 0.2 percent, up slightly from June’s 0.1 percent increase. Year-over-year, the PCE has increased 2.0 percent.
