Existing Home Sales Stabilize in August

Sales of previously-owned homes stabilized in August after four straight months of decline. August saw a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 5.34 million units, the same as in July.

Existing home sales were 1.5 percent lower than last August, and year-to-date, they are down 1.2 percent from the same period last year.

Existing sales saw the biggest increase in the Northeast, with a 7.6 percent rise, while sales in the West slumped 5.9 percent. The south saw a modest decrease of 0.4 percent. In the Midwest, sales were up 2.4%
