U.S. Retail Growth Slows in August

The Commerce Department has released numbers showing that retail sales increased by 0.1 percent in August. This falls below economist estimates of 0.4 percent and is the smallest rise since February. However, July’s retail numbers were revised up to 0.7 percent from the previously reported 0.5 percent, keeping expectations for strong third-quarter economic growth high.

August’s retail sales were up 6.6 percent year-over-year.
