U.S. Job Openings Climb to Record High

The July numbers from the Labor Department’s Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey show that job openings increased to a record 6.94 million for the month, up from June’s 6.82 million. The number of vacant jobs has increased by 737,000 in the past year, an increase of nearly 12 percent.

The number of people who left jobs on their own, referred to as the “quits” rate, also rose, climbing to 2.4 percent. This marks the highest level since April 2001.
