Retail Growth May Cool in 2019
February 8, 2019
The National Retail Federation (NRF) expects retail sales to increase between 3.8 and 4.4 percent this year. This would mean that though retail sales could amount to as much as $3.84 trillion this year, growth would actually be slower this year. The trade group’s preliminary estimate is that the sector grew by 4.6 percent last year
The NRF expressed confidence in the underlying strength of the economy, but did acknowledge that the threat of a prolonged trade war, volatility in the stock market, and impact of the government shutdown create a more uncertain environment in the retail space.
