Strong July Jobs Numbers Bring U.S. Workforce to Records Highs

The American economy added 164,000 jobs in July, according to the Labor Department. This is just shy of the 165,000 that economists had forecast. This brings the total labor force for the nation to 163.4 million, an all-time high.

Unemployment remained unchanged at 3.7 percent, while the “real” unemployment rate, which factors in underemployed workers and those who have given up looking for work, fell to 7 percent. This is the lowest “real” unemployment rate since December 2000.

The strong labor market continues to drive moderate wage increases. Wages were up 3.2 percent year-over-year.
