Trade Deficit Remains High, Even as Trade War Escalates

Despite the increasing trade tensions between China and the U.S., America’s deficit with its trading partners remained largely unchanged in June. The month saw a $55.2 billion deficit, down just $200 million from the month before. Economists had anticipated a larger drop to $54.6 billion.
Exports fell 2.1 percent to $206.3 billion, the lowest level since December. The trade deficit with China was virtually unchanged at $30.2 billion.
